While contemplating what to write about myself, I cannot help think how diverse and resilient people are. What we overcome. I am one of those overcomers. As I write, I have now been in buMike n Sue on our favorite pastimesiness for 23 years and in the trucking industry for 35 years. It did not come easy, however. As a matter of fact, I authored a book about it.

Here's more about me and the book...'Michael Kennon is the CEO and President of Kennon Transport, LLC, a successful trucking business he runs with his wife, Sue. Before owning his own company, Mike was a runaway and was virtually homeless for most of his childhood and young adulthood. To survive on the road, Mike drove trucks, sold encyclopedias, hustled pool, was a baker, ski instructor, sous chef, drug dealer just to name a few. Drugs and other dependencies took over Mike's life to the point that he could not accept help when it was offered, nor could he stop running away from a past that haunted him. While now blessed with what he has achieved in his life and in his personal and family relationships, things were much different at one time. "Memoirs of a Runaway: A Story of Hope" is a tale of survival and spirituality. Isolation and reconnection. Most of all, it is a hand reaching out to those who travel down the same troubled path; a story of hope.' Mike at 19I was born in Carbondale, IL on August 13th, 1961. My father died when I was 10 and mom remarried a man 2 years later that was mentally and physically abusive and I started running away. By age 17, I had driven over 250,000 miles in a semi alone without even having a drivers license. By 20, and 7 high schools later, I had a certificate for business math and communication and had gone to 3 colleges.

I'd like to say that's the end of the story and lived happily ever after, but that could not be further from the truth. Today, and for the last several years, however, I have been very happily married and running Kennon Transport with my wife, Sue, dispatching from a million dollars to multi-million dollars in freight almost every year. I'm also concentrating on helping runaways, promoting 'Memoirs of a Runaway' and am a Golden Tee vendor (more links to networking sites below).

great january !!
praying (for all of us) that we keep up this pace !! we had the best january we've had in 4 years !! a phenomenal 62.4% of quota !! 2011 revenues were much better !! we moved approx 37.5% of what we quoted for the year. prior to 08, we moved 77 to 85% of what we quoted. in 09, 13%, 2010 16%. so, hoping that means economy's getting better (was getting tired of peanut butter and jelly!).

A Good Way to Finish (2011)

update on my 3 jobs...

kennon transport--looks like we will finish up the year about 37.5% of quota. that is, we are getting about 37.5% of what we quote. may not sound like much but is twice as much as last year and I could not be more pleased.

golden tee vendor--sold the game, paid off some bills and now just going to play for fun (competitively is fun for me).

memoirs of a runaway--didnt sell a whole lot of books this year. i had started writing again and hope to finish book number 2 in the near future, but still have a long way to go. 'memoirs' is still getting outstanding reviews and would make a good christmas present. read more and order a copy at www.memoirsofarunaway.com

speaking of bigger and better things...
it's official, i'm no longer a golden tee vendor. sold the game last night. funny, people keep asking if i'm ok. i'm sure i'll find the next thing to obsess over soon. i wrote about this in the book; being consumed at being number 1 in sales, pool and many other things. someone mentioned that i was currently 108 best (golden tee player) in the world right now and there are 46,804 players. even sue said 'it's just temporary', she knows i love playing and running the game. i'll miss my ol friend and personal atm machine, but for now, it's onto the next best thing.

2011 GT Game in Valrico, FL

I started playing Golden Tee in 1998. When we moved to Charleston, SC, in 2002, I started playing with a group of about 7 to 12 guys a couple times a week. Then the economy went south and my wife said 'we can't afford your habit any longer...unless we buy one'. The rest was history and I'm now a Golden Tee vendor (and still play).

THE GAME HAS BEEN SOLD: READ MORE IN BLOGS
